Every once in a while, I like to grab my camera and photograph simply because a place inspires me.
That’s exactly what happened with this session at John Rudy Park.
August is one of my favorite times of year to visit because the gardens are overflowing with color. Everywhere you turn there’s something blooming, and as the sun starts to set, the entire park glows. It’s honestly hard to take a bad photo here.
When I have clients ask me where they should have their portrait session, John Rudy Park is always at the top of my list—and after looking through these images, I think you’ll see why.
One of the things I love most about John Rudy Park is that it doesn’t feel like you’re shooting in just one location.
Within a short walk, you have gorgeous flower gardens, a charming stone building, tree-lined paths, wide open green spaces, and beautiful landscaping that changes throughout the season. We didn’t have to rush from place to place or drive across York County to get variety. Everything was right there.
By the end of the evening, it looked like we had photographed at several different locations, when in reality we had barely scratched the surface of the park.
If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you already know I’m obsessed with golden hour.
There’s just something about that last hour before the sun disappears. The light softens, everything feels warm, and the colors come alive. Pair that with gardens that are in full bloom, and you have the perfect setting for portraits that feel timeless.
This floral dress couldn’t have been a better choice either. It blended beautifully with the gardens without getting lost in them, and it let the flowers become part of the story instead of competing for attention.
Sometimes the simplest wardrobe choices photograph the best.
One of the biggest things I hear is, “I don’t really have a reason to book a session.”
Here’s the thing…
You don’t need one.
You don’t have to be graduating, getting engaged, celebrating a birthday, or updating headshots to deserve beautiful photos of yourself.
Sometimes it’s enough to simply press pause for an evening, wander through a beautiful garden, and capture this season of your life exactly as it is.
Those are often the sessions that end up meaning the most.
If you’re dreaming of flowers, warm summer evenings, and portraits that feel natural instead of overly posed, I can’t recommend John Rudy Park enough.
Whether you’re celebrating a milestone or simply want beautiful photos because you deserve them, this park offers one of the prettiest backdrops in York County.
I’ll guide you through the entire session—from choosing outfits to posing—so all you have to do is enjoy the experience.
I promise… by the time the sun sets, you’ll forget you were ever nervous about being in front of the camera.
